After two weeks, today I made friends with the internet again.
I had a ton of bookmarks to sort, and while I was going through them I clicked on Scary Personals site. This image came up on the left menu bar. I'd say the probability of meeting any one of those chicks in that village is just about 1/27,500,021. What a whole load of bullocks!!

From Alaska to Argentina's Southern Tip - by bicycle.
Check out this video preview of Dominic Gill who's cycling from Alaska to Ushuaia in the southern tip of South America (20,000 miles) by a two person bicycle. Cat links and cat firefox theme
This cat thing is becoming a bit of a paranoia. I'm seeing cats all around me from featured animals on the animal of the day site to firefox theme, to my inbox. In the last weeks there were two uncommon cats featured on the AOTD site, the Andean Mountain Cat (Leopardus jacobitus) and the Palla's cat.
Then yesterday I found this firefox theme (a way to customise the look and feel of your web browser). I think this theme is so cool that it might even appeal to non cat lovers. What's more is that it's very useable. I particularly like the cat bouncing the world globe on the top right when a page is loading.
Last but not least, extreme cat lovers might want to read this article about how researchers found that cats cannot taste sweets. Thanks to Melissa for this who sent me the link by mail ... at least somebody is reading the blog :))

The editors of the American Heritage Dictionaries published the list of 100 words every high school graduate should know. You can find a list of the words here.
Matthew Baldwin, the writer of one of may favourite blogs defective yeti, wrote a small application you can use to test yourself a number of these words. Words Test.

What does a Uzbekistani accent sound like?
Have you ever wondered what a girl from Uzbekistan sounds like speaking English? Or maybe a Chadian?
The speech accent achieve has a huge set of sound files with annotations and phonetic transcriptions of people from all parts of the world, speaking English. Apart from being an invaluable resource for Linguists, and probably Speech and Language Therapists ;) it's also good educational fun for the rest of us.
I still cannot recognize the main accents though after playing with it.

Writing in a new blog
I've started writing in a new blog recently. The blog is called Geek Bazaar and it contains geeky stuff, gear reviews, humour etc. It's basically a place to share stuff instead of sending links by mail. Some of the writers work in IT security so you'll find some good stuff on that there too.

Free audio books
Looking for something new to do with your mp3 player? You can try listening to some audiobooks once in a while. The simplyaudiobooks site publishes a free audiobook each month. This month it's The stolen white elephant by Mark Twain. Of course you can buy all sorts of audiobooks from the site but a free download is always handy to get you going with audiobooks.
Free Audiobooks hint Nr 2. In the age of the internet we tend to forget about the more conventional sources of free stuff. Most libraries lend out audiobooks which you can borrow for free. So fish out that library card and visit the library if to find more free audiobooks.
