Table Top Guru

As part of my post Christmas presents yesterday we went to our national photographic society to subscribe to a photography course starting at the end of January. While at the premises we were invited to attend to a presentation about table top photography by Joe Camilleri.

As we entered into the presentation room there was an exhibition on display full of photomontages. Since I don't know how to use Photoshop, I'm always impressed when I see such images and these on display here were simply brilliant. While everybody sat down for the presentation an old man was introduced to start the presentation. As soon as I saw this man of over 70 I started admiring him being so old and so adaptable to new technology. His first words though were much more amazing, as he told us that he doesn't even know how to switch on his computer. All the photomontages were done manually by traditional camera. By now I was glued to my chair and as soon as he started describing how he did the stuff I made him my new idol. This man is a genius guru which was able to awe me for the whole hour and a half we remained for the presentation until I had to suffer the smell of Burger King after a hungry day on a diet.

Some of the images were no joke for example a fish jumping out of a bowl into an empty glass; A scissors with two eyes in the empty slots of the handles; Man and child walking through a tunnel executed on a tabletop the actually tunnel being a wine glass (see image) and a tap pouring money (see image).

I couldn't believe that in the age of computing and digital everything there are still people who do photograph such complex photos manually. Actually I never thought that these things existed before computing but damn how wrong I was.
